Bed Bombing

Easy1.0+

Also known as: Bed Strat, Bed Explosions, Blaze Bed Kill

Use bed explosions in the Nether to kill blazes and other mobs quickly. Beds explode when used in the Nether, dealing area damage that can clear blaze spawners efficiently.

How It Works

Beds are not usable in the Nether. When you right-click a bed placed in the Nether, it explodes with force comparable to TNT. This explosion deals heavy damage to all nearby entities, including blazes.

The explosion has a blast radius of about 5 blocks and deals up to 40 points of damage to entities at the center. Blazes have 20 health points, so a single bed explosion can kill a blaze outright if it is close enough.

By placing beds near a blaze spawner and timing the detonation when blazes gather, you can kill multiple blazes simultaneously. This is faster than fighting them with a sword, especially when multiple blazes spawn at once.

Step-by-Step Execution

1

Bring at least 7 beds into the Nether (craft from wool and planks).

2

Locate a blaze spawner platform in a nether fortress.

3

Block yourself in near the spawner using cobblestone or netherrack to create a safe area.

4

Wait for blazes to spawn and gather near the spawner.

5

Place a bed near the group of blazes.

6

Right-click the bed to detonate it. The explosion kills or heavily damages nearby blazes.

7

Shield yourself behind a block before detonation to reduce self-damage.

8

Collect the blaze rods dropped by the killed blazes.

Tips

  • +Place a block between you and the bed to absorb most of the explosion damage
  • +Wait for 2 to 3 blazes to cluster before detonating for maximum efficiency
  • +Keep food on your hotbar and eat between explosions to maintain health
  • +Beds are cheaper to craft than using a sword with durability

Common Mistakes

  • -Standing too close to the bed and taking fatal self-damage
  • -Detonating when no blazes are in range, wasting beds
  • -Not blocking yourself in, allowing blazes to shoot you from multiple angles
  • -Forgetting that the explosion can also destroy blaze rod drops if they are too close
