Hypermodern Portal Routing
Expert1.16+Also known as: Hypermodern, Modern Route, Meta Routing
The current meta routing strategy for competitive RSG Any% runs. Combines optimal nether entry, bastion-first resource gathering, fortress blaze farming, and blind travel exit into a streamlined route.
How It Works
The hypermodern route represents the current competitive standard. It sequences the major run phases for maximum time efficiency: fast nether entry (ruined portal or lava cast), bastion for pearls and resources, fortress for blaze rods, and blind travel exit to a stronghold.
The key innovation is the portal placement strategy. Instead of building portals reactively, the hypermodern route plans portal positions to minimize total travel distance. The nether entry portal, bastion, fortress, and exit portal form a rough line that covers the necessary objectives with minimal backtracking.
This route requires proficiency in every sub-technique (bastion routing, blaze farming, blind travel, triangulation, and dragon fighting) and combines them into a single fluid sequence. Top runners complete the entire route in under 10 minutes.
Step-by-Step Execution
On spawn, immediately scan for a ruined portal or lava pool. Gather wood and craft basic tools.
Enter the Nether within 2 to 3 minutes using the fastest available portal method.
Travel in one direction (typically positive X) to find a bastion remnant.
Loot the bastion: mine gold blocks, barter for ender pearls, and collect any useful chest loot.
Continue in the same direction to find a nether fortress.
Kill blazes for 7 or more blaze rods using beds or melee.
Navigate to blind travel coordinates (roughly 200 to 280 blocks from nether origin).
Build an exit portal, leave the Nether, triangulate the stronghold, and bed-bomb the dragon.
Tips
- +The route is flexible. If you find a fortress before a bastion, you can reverse the order
- +Keep track of your nether coordinates throughout so you know when to build the exit portal
- +Reset quickly if the nether does not have a bastion or fortress within 2 to 3 minutes of travel
- +The most common time loss is slow bartering RNG or unlucky blaze rod drops
Common Mistakes
- -Spending too long in the overworld before entering the Nether
- -Zig-zagging in the Nether instead of committing to one direction
- -Not resetting early enough when structures do not appear
- -Forgetting to craft eyes of ender before heading to the stronghold
