Navigate nether fortresses efficiently to locate blaze spawners and collect blaze rods quickly. Fortresses have a predictable layout that experienced runners exploit to find spawners faster.
How It Works
Nether fortresses generate along the north-south axis (Z axis) in strips. They consist of bridge segments (outdoor walkways) and interior segments (enclosed corridors with rooms). Blaze spawners generate exclusively on small platforms attached to bridge segments.
The fortress layout follows a pattern: bridge segments connect at perpendicular angles, and blaze spawner platforms branch off from these bridges. By following the bridges systematically, you can locate spawners predictably.
Fortresses also contain nether wart rooms, loot chests, and wither skeleton spawning areas. For speedrunning purposes, you want to reach a blaze spawner as quickly as possible, kill 7 to 10 blazes, and leave.
Step-by-Step Execution
Upon arriving at a fortress, orient yourself to identify the bridge segments (open-air walkways).
Follow bridges in one consistent direction. Blaze spawners are on platforms that branch off bridges.
Look for the small 3x3 platforms with fire and a spawner block on top.
When you find a spawner, block yourself in with cobblestone to create a safe fighting area.
Kill blazes as they spawn. Use beds for fast kills or a sword for safer kills.
Collect at least 7 blaze rods (6 for eyes of ender, 1 spare).
Exit the fortress and continue your route.
Tips
- +Fortresses generate in strips along the Z axis, so traveling east/west is more likely to find new fortresses
- +Bridge segments are where spawners generate, so prioritize outdoor sections over interior corridors
- +Wither skeletons spawn in fortresses and can drop skulls, useful for the All Bosses category
- +If you cannot find a spawner after 30 seconds of searching, the fortress may not have one on the visible section
Common Mistakes
- -Getting lost inside the fortress interior instead of following the outdoor bridges
- -Fighting blazes in an open area where they can fly away and shoot from distance
- -Leaving before collecting enough rods (you need at least 7)
- -Getting killed by wither skeletons while focused on finding the spawner
