Piglin Bartering Strategy

Easy1.16+

Also known as: Gold Trading, Piglin Trading, Barter Strats

Efficiently barter gold ingots with piglins to acquire ender pearls, obsidian, and other speedrun essentials. Bartering is the primary method of obtaining ender pearls in Random Seed Glitchless runs.

How It Works

Adult piglins accept gold ingots and return a random item from their loot table after a 6-second inspection period. The most important drop for speedrunners is ender pearls, which have a 2.18% chance per barter (yielding 2 to 4 pearls per successful roll on Java Edition).

To maximize bartering speed, you should drop gold to multiple piglins simultaneously rather than waiting for one piglin to finish. Each piglin operates independently, so 3 piglins bartering at once triples your throughput.

Gold blocks found in bastion remnants are the primary gold source. Each gold block yields 9 ingots. A typical bastion provides 15 to 27 gold blocks depending on the type, giving 135 to 243 ingots for bartering.

Step-by-Step Execution

1

Equip at least one piece of gold armor (boots are most common) to prevent piglin aggro.

2

Locate a bastion remnant in the Nether and find the gold block deposits.

3

Mine gold blocks with an iron or better pickaxe. Each block gives 9 ingots.

4

Find a group of adult piglins (baby piglins do not barter).

5

Drop gold ingots near the piglins by pressing Q. Drop one ingot at a time to multiple piglins.

6

Collect the items they throw back. Watch for ender pearls, obsidian, iron nuggets, fire resistance potions, and string.

7

Continue bartering until you have at least 12 ender pearls.

8

Move on to the fortress for blaze rods once you have enough pearls.

Tips

  • +Barter with multiple piglins at once to speed up the process significantly
  • +Wear gold boots as your armor piece since they are easy to craft and free up better armor for other slots
  • +Do not open bastion chests while piglins are watching, as this causes them to become hostile regardless of gold armor
  • +If you find a fire resistance potion from bartering, save it for the blaze fight

Common Mistakes

  • -Forgetting gold armor and getting swarmed by hostile piglins
  • -Opening bastion chests near piglins and triggering aggro
  • -Bartering with only one piglin when multiple are available nearby
  • -Leaving ender pearl drops on the ground too long (items despawn after 5 minutes)
