Hypermodern Route
ExpertOverall RouteThe 1.16+ Any% route that starts at the ocean: shipwreck or buried treasure loot, a magma ravine portal, then bastion, fortress and stronghold. It is more complicated than plain bartering at every step, and higher-level runners still have to learn it, since it has become the standard route for 1.16 and later.
When to Use
For competitive random-seed Any% on 1.16 and later, once simpler routes feel comfortable. It needs a coastal spawn with a shipwreck, a ruined portal or buried treasure, so expect to reset a lot. Some runners load several seeds at once and only play the ones that fit.

Step-by-Step Guide
Loot the shipwreck
A shipwreck can have a supply chest with carrots, potatoes and wheat, a treasure chest where iron ingots come 1 to 5 at a time, and a map chest with a buried treasure map. Seven iron is the usual target for the whole run.
Dig up the treasure
Follow the map, or skip it with the pie chart (see Mapless Buried Treasure). The chest always has a heart of the sea, plus rolls of iron, gold and TNT and two rolls of cooked cod or salmon, so iron and food are sorted in one stop.
Find a magma ravine
Ocean ravines floored with magma blocks often have large patches of lava underneath. That lava is your portal: build it there instead of hunting for a lava pool on land.
Clear a bastion
Find it, often by the entities spike on the pie chart, and barter. Leave with around 16 pearls, 21 obsidian, 48 string and fire resistance, plus crying obsidian and glowstone in case the string runs short. Most players manage this in three minutes or less; skilled runners are under two.
Get the rods
Drink or splash fire resistance, pearl to the blaze spawner and fight there. Each rod makes 2 blaze powder and each eye of ender takes 1, so 6 rods are enough for 12 eyes.
Triangulate and travel
Build a portal out, throw eyes and let Ninjabrain Bot or the angle math give you the distance, then travel it divided by 8 in the Nether. With some luck you come out in, on or next to the stronghold; if not, triangulate again.
Finish in the End
Find the portal room and fill the frames, each of which has a 10% chance of already holding an eye. Then one cycle the dragon, or zero cycle it from a pillar if you have put in the practice. Zero cycles are faster, but much harder.
Pros
- +Iron, food and a portal can all come from one stretch of coast
- +Bartering covers pearls, obsidian, string and fire resistance in one place
- +Faster techniques like mapless treasure, calculated travel and zero cycles slot straight into it
Cons
- -Needs a coastal spawn, so plenty of seeds get reset
- -Asks for a lot of separate skills: ravine portals, bastion routes, blaze fights, triangulation and dragon setups
- -One bad piece, like a ravine with no lava under it or a slow bastion, can sink the attempt
- -Harder to learn than the plain bartering strategy
