SPEEDRUN STRATEGIES
Detailed guides for every key strategy used in competitive Minecraft speedrunning.
Nether Entry
Ruined Portal Entry
EasyUse a naturally generated ruined portal to enter the Nether quickly, saving time on mining obsidian or building a portal from scratch. Ruined portals spawn with partial obsidian frames and often contain loot chests with useful items like iron, gold, and flint and steel.
Village Nether Entry
BeginnerUse a village to gather resources and enter the Nether. Villages provide hay bales for food, blacksmith loot for iron/obsidian, and beds. The most beginner-friendly nether entry strategy.
Nether Navigation
Navigation
Blind Travel (Educated Travel)
HardNavigate in the Nether to position yourself near a stronghold in the Overworld without using eyes of ender. By traveling to specific nether coordinates, you exit the nether close to a stronghold ring, saving time on overworld travel.
Stronghold Triangulation
MediumUse two eye of ender throws from different positions to triangulate the exact stronghold location mathematically. This is faster than following the eyes and minimizes wasted pearls.
Pie Chart (F3) Structure Detection
HardUse the F3 debug pie chart to detect nearby structures in the Nether without seeing them visually. The pie chart shows entity and block entity counts that spike when near structures like fortresses and bastions.
Overall Route
Dragon Fight
Zero-Cycle Dragon Kill
ExpertKill the Ender Dragon during its first perching cycle (cycle zero) using precise bed placement and timing. This is the fastest possible dragon fight, taking only seconds instead of minutes.
One-Cycle Dragon Kill
MediumKill the Ender Dragon during its first or second perching cycle using beds, without needing to destroy end crystals first. Faster than the traditional method of destroying all crystals then fighting the dragon.
