Blind Travel (Educated Travel)

HardNavigation

Navigate in the Nether to position yourself near a stronghold in the Overworld without using eyes of ender. By traveling to specific nether coordinates, you exit the nether close to a stronghold ring, saving time on overworld travel.

When to Use

In advanced RSG runs when you want to skip long overworld travel to the stronghold after exiting the nether.

Estimated Time Save

1-3 minutes

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Know the stronghold rings

The first stronghold ring generates between 1408-2688 blocks from world origin in the Overworld (176-336 nether blocks).

2

Calculate target coords

Pick a direction and travel to roughly 200-250 blocks from 0,0 in the nether (corresponding to 1600-2000 overworld blocks).

3

Build exit portal

Build a nether portal at your target coordinates in the nether.

4

Exit and triangulate

Exit the portal in the overworld. Throw 1-2 eyes of ender to pinpoint the stronghold direction.

5

Adjust and dig

Travel the remaining distance and dig down to the stronghold.

Pros

  • +Eliminates long overworld travel
  • +Can save 1-3 minutes in a run
  • +Pairs well with bastion routing
  • +Deterministic, first ring coordinates are consistent

Cons

  • -Requires good knowledge of coordinate math
  • -Still need some eyes of ender for final triangulation
  • -Can overshoot or undershoot the ring
  • -Nether travel can be dangerous
