Crafting & Inventory Management
EasyGeneralSpend less of the run in menus: let the recipe book fill the crafting grid, craft everything you need in one visit and use the inventory shortcuts the game already has. None of it depends on the seed, so every run gets the same saving.
When to Use
The whole run, from the first crafting table to the last bed. It pays off most at the big crafting moments: tools at spawn, eyes of ender after the fortress and beds before the End.

Step-by-Step Guide
Let the recipe book fill the grid
Click a recipe in the recipe book and it moves the materials into the grid; shift-click it and it puts in everything you have materials for. Switch the book to craftable recipes only so the list stays short.
Shift-click the result
Shift-clicking the output slot crafts as many as the materials allow and sends them straight to your inventory. This has worked since 1.8.
Shift-click ingredients in
Since 1.15, shift-clicking a stack in your inventory while a crafting table is open moves it into the 3 by 3 grid.
Use the number keys
Hover over an item and press 1 to 9 to swap it into that hotbar slot. The swap offhand key, F by default, does the same for your off hand, and has worked while hovering in the inventory since 1.16.
Move stacks in bulk
Double-click an item to gather loose items of the same kind into one stack. With a container open, Shift plus double-click moves every stack of that item at once.
Drop junk fast
Q drops one item from the selected stack and Ctrl+Q drops the whole stack; holding Q drops single items quickly.
Craft in one visit
Know what the next part of the run needs and make it in one go: a bucket from 3 iron ingots, flint and steel from an iron ingot and flint, a bed from 3 wool and 3 planks, and 2 blaze powder from each rod.
Keep a fixed hotbar
Put the pickaxe, blocks, pearls and beds in the same slots every run, so your hands find them without looking.
