Stronghold Triangulation

MediumNavigation

Use two eye of ender throws from different positions to triangulate the exact stronghold location mathematically. This is faster than following the eyes and minimizes wasted pearls.

When to Use

After exiting the Nether in Any% and related categories. Essential for intermediate and advanced runners.

Estimated Time Save

30-60 seconds vs following eyes

Step-by-Step Guide

1

First throw

Throw an eye of ender and note your X/Z coordinates and the angle the eye travels (use F3 screen).

2

Move perpendicular

Travel 200-400 blocks perpendicular to the eye's direction.

3

Second throw

Throw another eye and note the new coordinates and angle.

4

Calculate intersection

The stronghold is where the two eye trajectories intersect. Use simple trigonometry or a mental math shortcut.

5

Dig down

Travel to the calculated coordinates and dig down to Y=30-40 to find the stronghold.

Pros

  • +Uses only 2 eyes of ender instead of 5-10
  • +Pinpoints exact location, not just direction
  • +Saves time vs following eyes one by one
  • +Consistent and reliable with practice

Cons

  • -Requires coordinate math under pressure
  • -Eyes can break (20% chance per throw)
  • -Need to be in the right distance range for accuracy
  • -Not needed in SSG where location is known
